At the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand and identify the different components which make up rail joints and how they are installed and maintained
  • Install and maintain rail fastening and anchoring systems
  • Identify, install and maintain the main types of fishplates used in rail infrastructure maintenance
  • Identify, install and maintain the main types of fish bolts used in rail infrastructure maintenance
  • Identify, install and maintain the main types of rail fasteners used in rail infrastructure and maintenance
  • Demonstrate and understand how to join rail ends using different fishplates
  • Identify the different pre-use inspections carried out on fishplates and rail joints
  • Understand the defects affecting rail joints and their repair methods.
